Sponsor Yarn

Put your brand at the top of the page people land on when they're hunting for the exact movie or TV clip of the exact line.

What a sponsorship is

One banner image at the top of the page, linking wherever you like. That's the whole format. It loads with the page and stays where it is — nothing pops up, nothing plays sound on its own, nothing moves the page around while somebody is reading it.

Why we sell a few slots directly

Most advertising on Yarn is booked through our advertising partners, and that works well for us. Alongside it we keep a small number of placements we handle ourselves, so we can work directly with brands that suit the site.

For a sponsor that means something buying through an exchange doesn't usually get: a fixed, named position at the top of the page, and a straight answer from us about how it did.

How the rotation works

If more than one sponsor is running, the slot is shared equally between them. There's no auction and no bidding — nobody outranks anybody by paying more, and everyone gets the same share of the page views.

What you get back

We count two things: how many times your banner was shown, and how many times it was clicked. We'll send you both, and the clickthrough rate that falls out of them. That's the whole of our reporting — it's deliberately simple, and it's honest.

What we need from you

  • A static image in both sizes — 728×90 for desktop and 320×50 for mobile. PNG, JPG or SVG.
  • The web address you want the banner to link to.
  • Something our readers would actually be glad to see. People come here for films, TV and music; the closer you are to that, the better it will do.

What it costs

We're a small team and we're new to selling these placements ourselves, so we're genuinely open-minded about it. Tell us what you're thinking and we'll work something out.

Ask and we'll share current traffic figures and how the slot has been performing, so you can judge it for yourself before committing to anything.
